5 Key Principles to Consider Before Launching a Mobile Ministry Strategy

-

Mobile technology has revolutionized how we do everything these days, even ministry. Administrative tasks and the management of personnel that were once arduous and labor-intensive are now quick, easy and accessible from anywhere at any time.

Because now, at any given time, your church members are likely no more than arm’s reach from their mobile devices. Mobile technology has become an ingrained part of our culture – admittedly to a fault – presenting us with a unique opportunity to maximize our connections with people like never before and helping us achieve more purposeful goals like engaging people and moving them towards deeper connections and community.

But before you dive headlong into a new technology such as mobile ministry, you must be intentional in fully leveraging it. It has to be deployed within the confines of effective strategy and processes.

Here are five key principles to consider before you take the plunge:

1. Develop a process and plan for how you'll use it.

Effective processes set expectations, offer clarity, equip and train others for service, support people, evaluate success, and offer accountability.

2. Identify your high-level goals.

What is it you want to change? Why? What is it you hope to achieve by implementing a new process? By implementing mobile? You need to know where you want to go, what options there are for getting there, and what it will take to accomplish those goals.

3. Get early staff buy-in.

Motivated users of the technology will take it and run with it, and you need to identify those champions early in the implementation process to create ‘product evangelists.’

4. Encourage people to use it – and stick with it.

There is always an initial surge when implementing technology, but leaders must commit to it until it becomes part of the culture. op leaders must keep motivating staff and, with the help of the tech evangelists, overcome the inertia to get to the tipping point. It is then that change becomes part of the culture.

5. Create a culture of experimentation in your ministry.

If you successfully implement mobile into your church’s culture, that culture will evolve with the trends.

With mobile ministry, it’s never been easier for church leaders to stay fully connected and engaged with their members. We don’t need to be wary of technology or the scope of influence it has; we just need to learn to leverage it effectively and to our advantage if we want to make disciples of the people God has brought through our doors.
